About

I am a post-doctoral researcher at the Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies of the University of Neuchâtel (http://www.unine.ch/sfm).

My primary work is on the European project SOM (Support and Opposition to Migration: http://www.som-project.eu). This FP7-financed project looks at the politicization of migration in seven European countries. The aim of this comparative project is to determine why and when potential conflicts over migration become politicized, examining both anti-immigration and anti-racist movements. The project includes a large-scale claims analysis of newspaper articles.

In a related project, I lead a SNSF-funded project on explaining individual attitudes toward foreigners in Switzerland (http://p3.snf.ch/Project-138620). In this project we combine theory from economic and political science, and use individual-level panel data from the Swiss Household Panel (SHP).

In addition, I continue my work on political representation, including the political representation of women and ethnic groups in national legislatures. My 2009 article on the political representation of ethnic groups in a cross-national perspective won the SNIS International Geneva Award 2010.

In a more managerial role, I am the coordinator for the MOVE network (http://move-network.ch). Moreover, I teach political sociology.

In early 2012, I spent a good month as a visiting fellow at the Department of Political Science, University of Vienna (funded by the SNSF).
